2.15 or Not 2.15? An Historical‐Analytical Inquiry into the Nearest‐Neighbor Statistic

چکیده
Nearest-neighbor analysis (NNA)—a method for assessing the degree to which a spatial point pattern departs from randomness in direction of being either clustered or regular—was imported into academic geography an article published 1954 by ecologists Clark and Evans. In its simplest form, concerned with distances first nearest neighbor, NNA hinged on behavior “nearest-neighbour statistic,” Rn, supposed vary between 0 (complete clustering) 2.15 regularity). wider body work quickly gained sophistication, meaning that this simple test statistic only featured briefly frontline research literature geographical analysis. Nonetheless, given easy-to-grasp logic, it became remains staple quantitative textbooks undergraduate students statistical methods training school-level curricula. The purpose paper is chart history geography, provide analytical demonstration value has been mistakenly identified as upper limit latter. Broader speculations are then offered about what may be learned how discipline handled statistic.

Building on gene–environment interaction (G E) research, this study examines how the dopamine D4 receptor (DRD4) gene interacts with a situational prime of religion to influence prosocial behavior. Some DRD4 variants tend to be more susceptible to environmental influences, whereas other variants are less susceptible. Thus, certain life environments may be associated with acts of prosociality fo...

Compelling evidence exists for the cardioprotective benefits resulting from consumption of fatty acids from fish oils, EPA (20:5n-3) and DHA (22:6n-3). EPA and DHA alter membrane fluidity, interact with transcription factors such as PPAR and sterol regulatory element binding protein, and are substrates for enzymes including cyclooxygenase, lipoxygenase and cytochrome P450. As a result, fish oil...

Cryo-electron microscopy can provide high-resolution structural information about cells and organelles in the nearly native, frozen-hydrated state. Applicability, however, is limited by difficulties encountered in preparing suitably thin, vitreously frozen biological specimens. We demonstrate, by cryo-electron tomography of Escherichia coli cells, that a focused ion beam (FIB) can be used to th...

Stomach cancer, the second most common cancer in the world, represents a very important health problem with about 900,000 new cases diagnosed every year, and is a major cause of mortality in Chennai, India. Despite advances in diagnosis and treatment, the 5-year survival rate of stomach cancer is only 25 per cent (Terry et al, 2002). The aetiology of stomach cancer is multifactorial and predomi...
